Caracas, Venezuela, February 19, 2008:
Merle Bernadette Bain, 53 year old Grenadian citizen formerly of
Pomme Rose, St. David who was residing in the village of Jose Felix
Rivas, Petare, Caracas was laid to rest on Tuesday Feb, 19th in
Caracas. The chief celebrant at the Thanksgiving Service for her
life was Grenadian Deacon Joseph Dorset.
The Grenadian community and the local
population in general were shocked by the gruesome murder of this
Grenadian citizen.
The victim met her untimely death when
she was violently murdered during the early hours of Sunday February
3, 2008 at her home. Her decapacitated body was discovered by
villagers on Tuesday February 5. The murderer in a statement to the
police investigators admitted to have first given her a blow to the
head which put her in an unconscious state. He then took a cutlass
and dismembered the body. According to the autopsy report, the woman
was still alive when she was mutilated. Her body, intestines, feet
and hands were found wrapped in garbage bags in the garbage bin and
the head was discovered in the house covered in lime and cement. The
interior of the house was quickly painted to cover possible evidence
such as blood stains on the walls.
She leaves to mourn two children, her
father, three sisters, two brothers and one son-in-law. Many other
relatives and friends in Venezuela and Grenada.
The alleged murderer has since been
arrested by the Venezuelan authorities for the crime. He is 62 year
old Venezuelan citizen, Juan Colina also known as Juan Rabito, who
was the companion of the deceased.
Just prior to her untimely death she was
in the process of preparing to return to her homeland.
