OAS Secretary General pays tribute to Grenada

OAS Secretary General H.E. Jose Miguel Insulza among Cabinet members

Monday February 25th 2008, St. George’s: Organisation of  American States Secretary General H.E. Jose Miguel Insulza, has told Prime Minister Mitchell and other Government Ministers, that Grenada has made an amazing recovery since Hurricane Ivan.

The Secretary General expressed this view in a special meeting with Prime Minister Mitchell and other members of Cabinet this morning. “You may not realise what you have achieved because you are living here everyday, but I can tell you from my observations Grenada has made a most remarkable recovery since Hurricane Ivan,” the Secretary General stated. H.E. Jose Miguel Insulza credited the Government and people for working together to achieve this and wished the Prime Minister, Ministers of Government and the entire population of Grenada continued success.

During the meeting Prime Minister Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell commended the Organisation of American States for their strong interest in Grenada’s development. The Prime Minister told the Secretary General that he deeply appreciated his visit. “Your presence here this morning, is a clear demonstration of your commitment to Grenada. I look forward to our discussions, I know they will be meaningful,” the Prime Minister remarked. During this morning’s session the O.A.S. Secretary General and the members of Cabinet discussed several matters including increasing scholarship opportunities for young Grenadians, providing more online opportunities for study, and doing more work in the area of gender studies.

Tomorrow the Prime Minister and the O.A.S. Secretary General will hold detailed talks and will jointly host a press conference at 10:30am in the Ministry of Works Conference Room. The Press Conference will be aired live on GIS TV.
