October, 2007- St. George’s: A
contract in the amount of $EC One Million Four Hundred and Eleven Thousand,
Seven Hundred and Eleven dollars (1,411,711.00) has been awarded to Classic
Design & Construction Services Co. Ltd. for rehabilitation of the J.W.
Fletcher Memorial School.
Rehabilitation work commenced on October 1st,
2007 and has an estimated completion date of 31st May 2008.
Work on the project will be phased in order to
enable classes to continue during construction. Special provisions are being
made to ensure the safety of the students and for continuity of utilities
during the construction period.
The scope of work comprises the following:

Strengthening of the roof structure and
complete replacement of the roof covering.

Replacement of glass and installation of
hurricane protection to all existing steel casement windows.

Replacement of all external doors with solid
timber panel doors.

A terrazzo finish will be applied to all
ground floors and upper floors will be finished with non-slip ceramic
tiles.

The electrical system will be completely
reinstalled and all electrical fixtures and fittings will be replaced.

The entire existing plumbing system will be
inspected and repairs will be carried out as necessary. All plumbing
fixtures and fittings will be replaced and the washroom will be
redesigned to incorporate hidden toilet tanks to reduce the incidence of
tampering by students.

All buildings will be repainted internally
and externally.

External work will include the repair of
existing footpaths and the construction of new footpaths where required.

The school will also be fenced.
