Wednesday October 3rd, 2007, Montevideo, Uruguay:
Grenada’s non-Resident Ambassador H.E Richard Mc Phail presented Letters
of Credence to the President Dr.Tabare Vazquez Rosas of the Oriental
Republic of Uruguay.
The Ambassador accompanied by his wife, Mrs.
Paula Mc Phail, were warmly welcomed by the President and other members
from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador H.E Richard Mc Phail
delivered warm greetings to President Dr. Tabare Vazquez Rosas and
government and people of Uruguay from the government and people of the
State of Grenada. The Ambassador also used the occasion to express
gratitude for the support and assistance received from the government of
Uruguay in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004.
The President and the Ambassador then held a
private discussion which focused on areas of cooperation to be
established between the two nations and the strengthening of existing
relations. The strengthening of relations was discussed especially in
light of globalization and south-south cooperation. Areas discussed for
cooperation included agriculture, human resource development, culture,
science and technology just to mention a few. In the area of human
resource development, a promise was made by the President that some
scholarships will be provided very soon. The area of trade and
investment was also discussed.
An invitation was extended to Prime Minister
and a delegation to visit the Oriental Republic of Uruguay at the
earliest convenience in an effort at strengthening bilateral relations.
Following the
presentation at the Presidential Palace, the Ambassador accompanied by
his wife and the President´s Aide-Camp laid a wreath at the Independence
Plaza in Montevideo.
