AMBASSADOR MC PHAIL PRESENTS HIS CREDENTIALS

Ambassador Richard Mc Phail and President of the Republic of Peru, Dr. Alan Garcia Perez

Tuesday December 11th, 2007, St. George’s:, On Monday December 3rd, His Excellency, Ambassador Richard Mc Phail, presented his Letters of Credence to President of the Republic of Peru, Dr. Alan Garcia Perez as Grenada’s first non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Peru.

Ambassador Mc Phail first met with the Vice Minister for External Relations of the Republic of Peru, Ambassador Gonzalo Gutierrez at the Torre Tagle Palace which houses the Peruvian Ministry of External Relations. He first presented the Vice Minister with a copy of his Credentials and then they had a discussion on a wide range of topics. They discussed several areas for greater cooperation between the two nations including trade issues, the provision of scholarships, assistance for our agriculture and agro industries and assistance for programmes for youth development and empowerment. Assurances were given that these requests will be brought to fruition.

Upon arrival at the Government Palace, Ambassador Mc Phail was received by the National Director of Protocol and Ceremonial and the chief of the Military House. He was then accorded a General Salute by a Guard of Honor and the Military Band in the Courtyard of the Presidential Palace. He was then escorted inside of the Palace to the Honor Patio where another Military Band beautifully played the National Anthem of Grenada as a General Salute was given to Ambassador Mc Phail.

He was then escorted to the Salon Dorado (Gold Room) by the National Director of Protocol and Ceremonial of the State and by the Head of the Military House. In that Salon he was announced to the President, Dr. Alan Garcia and made a short statement before delivering his Credentials.

After the President received the Letters of Credence a short discussion ensued where salutations were exchanged, assistance for Grenada was sought in the provision of scholarships, and current affairs.

Presenting Credentials on the same day as non-Resident Ambassadors were the Ambassadors of the Republic of Ghana, the Republic of Angola, the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

During this first official visit to Peru, Ambassador Mc Phail met with high officials of the Ministry for Foreign Relations.
