Grenada Negotiating Team |
St. George’s, May 6, 2010 (GIS)
– The Treaty on the Delimitation of Marine and Submarine
Areas between the Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago has been
posted on the
Government of Grenada website:
The seven-page document includes
details of the treaty which was signed by Grenada’s Prime
Minister Tillman Thomas and his Trinidad and Tobago counterpart,
Patrick Manning, at an official ceremony on April 21 in Port of
Spain, Trinidad.
The ceremony was attended by the
foreign ministers of the two countries, Grenadian and Trinidad
officials who negotiated the maritime agreement as members of
the Joint Boundary Commission, as well as representatives of
non-governmental sectors in Grenada.
“We have always made it abundantly
clear that as part of our policy of openness and transparency
that the treaty was going to be made public. Now that that the
treaty has been signed and ratified, we are now free to do
that,’’ said Prime Minister Thomas, who is also Minister of
Information.’’
Hon. Thomas urged nationals to read
the treaty, which he describes as “a document with great
prospects for exploration and exploitation of our vast marine
resources, and which could help enhance and develop the national
economy.’’
The Prime Minister also appealed for
broad participations from citizens in a series of briefings on
the treaty that is taking place nationwide.
The citizens’ briefings began May 4
in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, and continued on May 5 in
Victoria, St. Mark.
